April is ended. May is here. Project? Not yet…

I’ve been spending much of my time practicing and composing new music.  I’m determined to complete and release my first non-seasonal musical product by my birthday, this September.  I don’t want to whine.  I don’t want to complain, especially when it comes to things fully in my control.  “Don’t let the perfect become the enemy of the good”, my beloved tells me.  Easier said than done.  Tomorrow is May 1.  May 1!!!  I have several songs written, many of those arranged, but I still want to write a few more.  The writing will get done, but it’s the timeframe I struggle with.  I just never seem to have enough time.  Awwww, poor me…

I’ve made major changes to my schedule (not so many gigs, not going to hear live music as much as I’d like to, few movies, etc.) but still, day after day passes and I don’t get everything done I’d like to. It seems to take me forever to finish this project! Time management is clearly my achilles heel…well, one of many weak heels…

I’m a perfectionist by nature, so part of the issue may be my own tendency to be overly critical, but I know it’s also a certain nervousness about “will it be good enough” and the underlying (though to a lesser extent – I think…) “am I good enough”.  I really love the new songs and am excited about letting everyone hear them, and especially about performing them live.  Enough of my navel gazing…time to get back to the piano and back to writing!

A poem:

“The world’s favorite season is the spring.
All things seem possible in May.”
–  Edwin Way Teale

I’ll take that as my cue and proclaim that all things are possible in May!  I will finish the new songs I worked on last week!  I will finish arranging 2 tunes for VERY patient clients!  I will submit my ideas for a new collaborative effort!  Yes!!

I have a few performances coming up.  I hope to see you soon!  But don’t look for me online.  I’m shutting down again.
